In 1984 the four founding members of the Association, Peter Walker, Derek Statham, Gerald McGuire and Don Tilley first put forward the idea a ‘Park society’. A forum was convened with meetings in May, July and October of the same year. The North Yorkshire Moors Association inaugural meeting was held on May 4th 1985 with 80 enrolled foundation members.
Today the Association has about 800 members and is run by elected officers and an elected executive Council of up to 14 members. The AGM is usually held in June. The posts of Secretary and Development Officer carry a small honorarium. The Council meets four times a year.
